کرشِفت

کرشفت یا «کرشفت مرغ» نام پرنده‌ی اسطوره‌ای دراساطیر ایران و رهبر و بزرگ مرغان گوشت‌خوار است. در افسانه‌های زرتشتی، سوای سیمرغ مرغان افسانه‌ای دیگر هم وجود دارند‌. واژه‌‌ی «کرشفت» به معنای «تیزپرواز» است. او در بندهش مرغی معرفی شده‌است که سخن گفتن می‌داند. بر اساس این روایت، «کرشفت» پرنده‌ای است که دین به وَرْجَمْکرد (برج و باروی افسانه ای در شاهنامه) برد و آیین مزدیسنی را در آنجا رواج بخشید تا اوستا را به زبان مرغ بخوانند. بنا به این روایت، «کرشفت» همتای سیمرغ، سرور همه‌ی مرغان است.

Kershft is the name of a mighty mythical bird in Iranian mythology. Kersheft is the biggest and leader of meat-eating birds. The word Kersheft means "Quick-flight", which might point to the speed at which the bird maneuvered the world. In Budaheshn (Iranian Cosmology and Creation Story), it attests that Kershft is not only able to speak but that it brought religion to Yima (Jameshed's) legendary tower and rampart in which Jamshid built this building to protect a selection of creatures from the severe snow and cold that happened in his era. Due to this, the language of the religion was spoken in the bird's tongue. According to this story, Kersfat, the counterpart of Simorgh, is the master of all birds. In the book of Vendidad, Farfard II, Kershift is mentioned with the name Kershipter, and its appearance is more or less like an eagle.
