Eranshahr
a collection of projects to shape and share the beauty of Iranian culture

A black and red box with gold floral designs and a pull-out card featuring a king in royal robes, a crown, seated on a throne, holding a red object, with a sun symbol in the background, and the text 'Ganjafeh' and its Persian equivalent, with a subtitle 'The Lost Game of the Safavid Court'.

We have reconstructed the lost game of Safavid Ganjafeh using visual and literary evidence. This edition attempts to restore the pastime as it was likely played five centuries ago, before it was lost to time. Our team used the verses of the Safavid poet Ahli Shirazi to reveal the mystical wisdom hidden in the cards. Our hope is that when you hold this deck, you feel a connection to its history.

Iranian Rituals

We are spotlighting the unique ceremonies and rituals that shape how Iranians remember and belong.

Luckily, Iranian culture has a deep well of living practices to draw upon: Nowruz, Chaharshanbe Suri, Yalda, Mehregan, Tirgan, Sadeh and countless local rites that exist locally in remote areas. The Iranian Rituals team is working to document, illustrate, and catalog these meaningful ceremonies that have been passed down for thousands of years.

Iranian Mythical Creatures

Documented for the first time, our team has been working for years to collect stories of Iranian Mythical creatures sourced from folk tales, epic poems, and religious lore. Our goal is to breathe new life into this creatures through illustration and storytelling. Each creature is catalogued with its origins, narrative, and visual identity, forming a living archive. Our project invites people everywhere to submit legends and help map their regional spread. In doing so, we celebrate, preserve, and re-enchant Iran’s deep well of mythes for present and future generations.

1001 Shahs (Kings and Queens) of Iran

The 1001 Kings Project brings Iran’s ancient rulers to life through faithful, research-based illustration. Each king is reconstructed from material evidence, coins, seals, dishes, and rock reliefs. Together they form a visual chronicle tracing the evolution of Iranian power, style, and identity across millennia. This is the first effort to depict every monarch of Iran’s legendary and historical past with scholarly precision and artistic reverence.
