Tahmurath the Dominator of Deevs

Episode 7 | see all episodes

On the topic of the genealogy of Tahmurath:

Some sources like the Persian Book of Kings (Shahname) state that Tahmurath was the son of Houshang, while others write that there were two generations between Houshang and Tahmurath. The Pahlavi text, Greater Bundaheshn, chapter XXXV writes about the relationship between Tahmurath and Houshang as such:

“2. Tahmurasp son of Vivangah son of Ayanhat son of Hooshang.”

The figure mentioned as the father of Tahmurath here is somewhat mysterious. It is unclear if Vivanghah (Av. Vīuuaŋᵛhant), a figure also mentioned by the Indian Gathas, meaning “the one who shines far and wide”, is a mortal human or a solar deity.
