References

For this imaginary recreation of Khosrow II’s likeness, several coins from his time, both frontal, and side profile have been considered. Also, the wall carvings which presumably* depict him have been considered, although mostly for the construction of the crown and not the face since the reliefs seem to have been heavily damaged.

For this work, the estimates from his grandfather, Khosrow I and, his maternal uncle, Vistahm, have also been considered.

*There are a few scholars who have raised doubts about the figures on the walls of at Tagh-e-Bostan to be depictions of him and instead could be of Kavad I. This theory has been disregarded for this reconstruction.

Likely Accuracy of the Creative Recreation

Between a ‘Wild’ and a ‘Weak’ Guess:
Although Khosrow II was a prominent king at his time and has much evidence of what he might have looked like, the quality of these creations are not enough to produce a close construction. For this reason, this work is at best a ‘Weak Guess’.

Note: His potential foreign ancestry also adds to the complexity of this depiction.
