در آموزه‌های مانوی، پس از شکست هرمزدبگ (هرمزدبغ) و فرزندانش (امهر سپندان) از شهریار تاریکی و سقوطشان به جهان تاریکی ، پدرِ بزرگی تلاش می‌کند تا آنها را برهاند و به سرزمین روشنی برگرداند. [ پستِ هرمزدبگ را در این صفحه بخوانید ]
دومین مرحله آفرینشِ ایزدان در این مرحله رخ می‌دهد و 《مهرایزد》 به وجود می‌آید.
مهرایزد برای نجات هرمزدبگ خود را به مرز جهان تاریکی می‌رساند. دست راست خود را دراز می‌کند تا هرمزدبگ آن را بگیرد و از ظلمت خارج شود.
هرمزدبغ توانست با کمک مهرایزد از جهان تاریکی نجات پیدا کند، اما امهرسپندان(فرزندان هرمزدبگ) به دلیل اینکه با تاریکی و ظلمت آمیخته شده بودند، همچنان در اسارت سرزمین تاریکی ماندند.
مهرایزد همراه با پنج فرزندش بار دیگر به سرزمین تاریکی رفت تا فرزندان هرمزدبغ ( امهرسپندان) را نجات دهد. برای رهایی آن‌ها از اسارت، لازم بود که دنیای مادی را خلق کند تا از طریق گردش زمان و حوادثی که نیاز است رخ دهد، راه جدایی نور از تاریکی فراهم شود.
بنابراین مهرایزد همراه با مادرِ زندگی، طرح دنیا را ریختند و طی مراحلی، جهان را به وجود آوردند.

After the Emperor of Darkness defeated Hormazbagh and his children and they fell to the Land of Darkness, the Father of Greatness tried to rescue them and bring them back to the Land of Light. The creation of the second group of deities happened at that time. Among those deities, 'Mehrizad' was created.

To rescue Hormazbagh, Mehrizad went to the borders of the Land of Darkness and stretched his right hand for Hormazbagh to take. Hormazbagh took his hand and managed to escape the Land of Darkness. 'Amhar-sepandān' was tempered with the darkness, and they couldn't escape the land.

Mehrizad and his five children went to the Land of Darkness one more time to save Amhar-sepandān. They had to create a materialistic world. The reason behind it was so that everything that was supposed to happen inside that world, and the movement of time, caused the darkness and the light to be separated. Mehrizad and the Mother of Life planned the creation of the materialistic world, and in a few steps, they created the world.
