مرغ شُو در باور عامیانه‌ی مردم جنوب کرمان، مرغی‌ست به رنگ طلایی که قادر است اندازه‌ی خود را تغییر بدهد. این مرغ شوم معمولاً در شب ظاهر می‌گردد و با مکیدن خون نوزادان باعث مرگ آنان می‌شود. بنا بر اعتقاد مردم این ناحیه، «مرغ شُو» قبل از شبیخون زدن به نوزاد، دَه مهره‌ی جادویی خود را در آب قنات یا در دمپایی پدر و مادر نوزاد قرار می‌دهد تا آن‌ها به خوابی سنگین فرو بروند. «مرغ شُو» قادر است حتی از سوراخ‌های کوچک نیز وارد خوابگاه نوزادان بشود. این باور نیز وجود داشته است که کشتن این مرغ خوش‌یمن نیست و باعث می‌شود تا نزدیکان قاتل به بلایی هولناک گرفتار شوند. مردم معتقد بوده‌اند که با قسم دادن پرنده به مقدسات «مرغ شُو» کاری به نوزادانشان نخواهد داشت.

In the folklore of the people of southern Kerman, "Morgh Shu" is a golden-colored bird capable of changing its size. This ominous bird usually appears at night and, by drinking the blood of infants, causes their death.
According to the belief of the people in this region, before Morgh Shu attacks an infant at night, it places its ten magical tokens in the water reserve or in the parents' slippers to put them into a deep sleep. Morgh Shu is believed to be able to enter the infants' sleeping quarters even through small openings.
It has also been believed that killing this malevolent bird is not auspicious and can lead to dire consequences for the perpetrators. People believe that by swearing to the sacred, Morgh Shu will not harm their infants.
