در باور مردم جنوب ایران بخصوص دزفول موجودی به نام «وَقَه» وجود دارد. «وَقَه» نام مرغ حق است که شبانگاه در آسمان پرواز می‌کند. چنین روایت شده است که اگر بچه‌ای پس از تولد زیاد گریه کند، می‌گویند او را «وَقَه» زده است. در روایتی دیگر شنیدن صدای «وَقَه» در شب حکایت از احتمال مردن یک بچه‌ی خردسال دارد که با گفتن عبارت «کارد، نمک» جلوی این اتفاق نامیمون گرفته می‌شود. بعضی هم با شنیدن صدای «وَقَه» آب به هوا می‌پاشند. مردم این مناطق معتقدند که اگر بر گهواره بچه خوشه‌ی اسفند، ورقه‌ی فولاد، نخ ابریشم و موی بز ریسیده گذاشته شود، نوزاد از شرّ «وَقَه» حفظ می‌شود.

The Waqah is the type of "Scops owl" that flies at night.
The story is such: If a child cries a lot after birth, for routine days, it is usually said that he has been bit by "waqah". In another tradition, hearing the sound of a waqah at night indicates the possibility of the death of a young child, which can be prevented by saying the words "knife" or "salt". It is believed generally in many folklore in Iran that evil fewls metal objects of being exposed to salt. Some people splash water in the air when they hear the noise. The people of these regions believe that if a cluster of Espand (Wild Rue), a sheet of steel, a silk thread, and goat hair are placed in a baby's cradle, the baby will be protected from the evil eye.
