وایو، در فرهنگ و باور کهن هندوایرانی و در آیین مزدایی، ایزد هوا، باد و جوّ دانسته میشود. وایو از جمله مفاهیمی پیچیده ای است که در طول قرون معنی متفاوتی گرفته است. به گفته‌ی ایرانیکا این ایزد/مفهوم در اوستا هم محافظ آفریدگان خوانده شده هم گیرنده جان. در متون پهلوی این دوگانگی به صورت «وایِ وِه» وایوی خوب و «وایِ وَتتَر» وایوی بد نام برده شده.

Synonymous with Wind, Atmosphere, and Space is the name of a deity in ancient Indo-Iranian beliefs. Vayu has a complex and evolving meaning throughout Iranian and Indian religious history. It's on the basis of the much later Pahlavi sources, one can identify one scenario where there was a primordial condition of infinite Space (Vāyu) and infinite Time (Zruwan), from which the dualities of finite space and time evolved as the requisites of the creation of the world.
