ر مردمان مناطق کردستان ایران و کردستان عراق، مقبره‌ای به نام «بابا گورگور» یا به زبان سورانی «باوەگوڕگوڕ» وجود دارد. معروفترین آن در استان کردستان و از جاذبه‌های توریستی شهرستان قوروه است که در روستایی به همین نام قرار گرفته است.
بر طبق روایات محلی در این مکان، مدفن شخصی پیر وجود دارد که حاجات زائرین را روا می‌کند. در پای مقبره، سوراخی به قطر ده سانتی متر وجود دارد. شخص زائر سکه‌ای در آن سوراخ می‌اندازد، سکه روی سوراخ را می‌گیرد و بعد از مدت کوتاهی رها میشود. اگر سکه به بیرون پرتاب شود یعنی حاجت شخص برآورده خواهد شد. به علت وجود گاز گوگرد در منابع زیرزمینی و فشرده شدن گاز، بعد از آزادشدن مسیر، صدای مهیبی شنیده میشود که در زبان کردی به آن صدا، «گوڕ» اطلاق میشود که به معنی «زبانه آتش» نیز است. از «گورگور» معنی «آتش زبانه کشیده» نیز استنتاج میشود. علت روانشدن حاجت زائرین را قدرت ناکافی شخص جهت بستن روزنه در زمان لازم می‌دانند.
در کرکوک نیز میدانی نفتی به همین نام وجود دارد که اسمی کردی-فارسی برای این منطقه است و علت اصلی اهمیت آن برای کردهای ایزدی و زرتشتی عراق، شعله‌وربودن آن به مدت ۲۵۰۰ سال است که به آن آتش جاویدان می‌گویند.

In the beliefs of the people living in Iraq Kurdistan and Kurdistan province (western Iran), there's a tomb named [Baba Gur Gur] or, in the Sorani language, [Baveh Gur Gur]. The most famous one is located in Kurdistan province and is one of the tourist attractions in Qorveh (a city in Kurdistan).
According to the local lores of this place, there's a grave that belonged to an old guy. People go to his tomb to have their wishes granted. There's a tiny gap next to the grave. It has a diameter of ten centimeters. People in need throw their coins inside the gap and make their wishes. After people throw their coin, it stays on the spot and is thrown out after a while. People say that if the coin is thrown out, the person's wish will come true.
Due to the existence of compact Sulfur gas inside the underground sources, it makes a horrible sound after being released. The released Sulfur gas is the thing that throws the coins out of the gap. In Kurdish, this sound is called [Gur]. It means [a blaze], and [Gur Gur] can be translated into [Blazing Fire]. Some say that people's wishes don't come true because they can't throw the coin with good timing.
In Kirkuk, there's an oil field with the same Kurdish-Farsi name. This oil field is sacred to Zoroastrian and Yazidi Kurds of Iraq because the fire on this oil field has been alight for 2500 years. People call it [the eternal fire].
