در باور مردمان مناطق کوهستانی هزارمسجد در خراسان رضوی، جن زشت وحشتناکی به نام «بندا» وجود دارد. بندا شب‌هنگام بالای سر انسان‌ها می‌نشیند؛ اگر انسانی زیر پتو قایم شود، با او کاری ندارد، اما انسانی که از زیر پتو بیرون بیاید را خفه می‌کند (نفست می‌خوره).
بندا پوشش سیاه بلندی دارد و صورتش قابل رویت نیست. او هنگام تابستان در کوه زندگی می‌کند و در هوای سرد از آن‌جا بیرون می‌آید.
ریشه‌ی این داستان برای مناطق سرد کوهستانی است که زمستان‌هایی سخت دارد. کودکان را برای در امان ماندن از سرمای سخت کوهستان با بندا می‌ترساندند.

According to people living in Hezar-Masjed (central Khorasan, located in northeastern Iran), there's an ugly and terrifying Jin called 'Banda'. Banda sits above people's heads when they're sleeping. If people hide under the covers, it would leave them alone but would strangle them to death. Banda always wears black and hide's its face. It lives inside the mountains and when the weather gets cold, it leaves the place. The reason behind telling this story was to keep the children warm and safe during cold winters.
